Location

Located in the South passing Weligama, Tangalle and many seaside resorts is the luxury hotel Elephant Reach Yala. The distance from the commercial capital of Colombo to Elephant Reach is approximately 265km. This unique nature resort is spread across 4 acres of land while the property is built under the shades of tropical trees.


Accommodation

Elephant Reach consists of 21 chalets and 14 standard rooms most of which are interconnecting rooms. All accommodation units are well appointed to blend with nature as well as providing guests privacy and security. All chalets are equipped with air-conditioning, an electronic safe, a well stocked minibar, a 20" television with satellite channels, a DVD player, hair dryer, a spacious bath with hot and cold water as well as complimentary tea and coffee making facilities.


Facilities

Facilities at Elephant Reach include an air-conditioned restaurant where you can enjoy Sri Lankan culinary delights as well as selected Western specialties. The Mahout's Bar offers you the chance to enjoy drinks with your friends after a day of exploring. For recreational purposes the hotel houses a beautiful outdoor swimming pool as well as sun loungers for you to laze around under the sun or under the shade of the magnificent trees.

The pool bar offers you delightful drinks to scorch your thirst after a swim. There is also a pool table for the adults and a kiddies playing area for the little ones. Other facilities at Elephant Reach include laundry facilities, a beautiful landscaped garden, IDD facilities and also safari jeeps with guides.


Excursions

Located close to many national parks and sanctuaries, guests can hire vehicles to explore these wonders that Sri Lanka has to offer. "Yala" which is one of the well preserved wildlife sanctuaries in Sri Lanka is only a 30 minute drive away from Elephant Reach. Elephants, Sloth, Bears, Leopards, Spotted Deer, Wild Boar, Sambhur, Deer, Hare, Crocodiles, Snakes, Iguana and birds in thousands could be witnessed from the vehicles that you choose to travel.

Other excursions include trips to "Bundala" which is famed for birds and wild animals, "Uda Walawe" which is a park that is home for about 250 elephants as well as deer, leopards and numerous species of birds, "Kumana" - a bird sanctuary with a natural swamp lake, "Lahugala" - a small elephant park and many more. Guests can also travel to Kataragama which is a religiously important location for most of the Sri Lankans.

The Elephant Reach Hotel is situated with close proximity to some of the best places in the world to watch birds.Bundala National Park is only a 30 minute drive from the hotel and one could enjoy the unique opportunity of seeing some hundreds of rare species. It is reported that there are over 197 species of bird both migratory and endogenous; over 383 plant species and over 324 species of vertebrates living in this 6216 hectare park.Kumana is a well-known bird sanctuary situated in the Yala East and spreads over 35,664 hectares. It is a place where the birds breed and roost and this had made the place famous among bird watchers. During the months of April- July one could see many species of birds that flew over 9000-11,000 kilometres every year to reach the Kumana Park.
Kirinda known for its historical importance has recently been recognized as one of the best sites for diving. World renowned science fiction icon Arthur C Clarke pioneered in putting Kirinda on the map when he used it as his base for his diving exploration to write his book The Treasure of the Reef. It’s only five-minute walk from the hotel to dive into an experience of combination of sandstone reefs carved by strong tides, watching many species of fish including, angel-fishes, rays, giant maori wrasses, porpoises, gray sharks and tuna. Diving in sea waters off Kirinda is a rare experience indeed.
Yala jungles are famous among the ‘off-the-road’ adventurers owing to its natural inheritance. The Kumbukkan Oya which dries away during the dry season making way for dusty red dirt trails converts its surrounding into a swamp ideal for 4WD jeep safaris during the rainy season. It's naturally made for the off the road adventure lovers.
